Approach
I have been trained in traditional counseling theories and practice from the
theory of Alfred Adler. An Adlerian Theory believes that everyone is searching
for their place to fit in society. Our focus should be on the here and now
and not in the past or in the future. Adler’s view that we are all interconnected
with all living beings and their natural need toward cooperation serves as
a strong theory when working with couples and families. Adler’s concept
of the style of life, where one central theme is reflected in every expression
and acts as a guide for the way we view life. Adler believed in the fundamental
creative power of individuals and their freedom to choose and change their
direction in life.
I am also a Licensed Local Pastor within the United Methodist Church. Therefore,
I practice from a Christ-Centered perspective. I believe that for true healing
to take place that the Holy Spirit must be present. I believe along with traditional
counseling practices the use of prayer, scripture, and biblical insights are
most important. I practice from a biblical perspective and therefore do not counsel
from any denominational belief.

Do you want to strengthen your relationship?
Over 2 million couples (4 million people) have taken the Prepare/Enrich program since 1980. There are 5 inventories available for you.
PREPARE: Pre-marital couples
PREPARE—MC: Pre-marital couples with children
PREPARE—CC: Cohabiting Couples with or without children
ENRICH: Married couples with or without children
MATE: Couples over the age of 50
Prepare/Enrich has been a very positive tool to help individuals identify their strengths and growth areas as they enter into marriage or been in a relationship for years. It is not a compatibility inventory but a very valid way to open up communication between the couples.
The six goals are to explore Relation Strengths and Growth Areas; to learn Assertiveness and Active Listening Skills; to learn how to resolve conflict; to help couples discuss Family-of-Origin; to help with financial planning and budgeting skills and to focus on personal, couple and family goals.
The inventory takes about 45 minutes and has a fee of $35 (separate from counseling fees) to have the inventory scored. After it is scored then I will meet with you for 5-8 sessions to review the results.
